FIRST INDEPENDENTS FOR NEWARK CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED FOR NEWARK AND SHERWOOD DISTRICT COUNCIL ELECTION IN MAY 2023
Independents for Newark (IfN) - a new community campaign group uniting and supporting independent candidates to stand in the May 2023 Town and District council elections - has announced its first two independent councillors standing under the banner.
David Moore, age 63, is standing for Newark and Sherwood District Council (Beacon) and Newark Town Council. Owning and running Newark Art Gallery & Studio, situated in Kirkgate, David has gained first-hand insight into the issues of concern in our town and the change people desire.
David is determined to boost support for local businesses in Newark because he believes they are central to the heart of a vibrant town centre, providing local employment and supporting our local economy. David wants to ensure that residents’ council tax is invested in good public services to create a safer, healthier, well-maintained town that will thrive into the future.
“I want to run as a District Councillor because I believe that the townspeople of my ward deserve to be better represented, with more of a voice in local affairs,” says David Moore. “If elected, my biggest ambition is to see that our town, heritage and buildings alongside our shared open recreational spaces are best utilised, supported and protected.”
“I will do all I can to engage the relevant authorities and companies to supply a better, readily available to all, public transport system and properly built cycle tracks where needed, to allow our residents a healthier, more economical means of getting around our beautiful town.”
Jean Hall, age 51, is standing for Newark and Sherwood District Council (Balderton South). Jean has a life-long connection to Newark and has strong aspirations to address the issues of overcrowded and underfunded surgeries, schools, dentists and social services. She is also passionate about ensuring all communities are thoroughly consulted and have their voices heard, with a particular focus on the next generation.
“My biggest ambition is to be part of an open and honest council that represents the wider community. One that is not led by politics but by a passion for the people, businesses and land it represents,” says Jean Hall. “If elected, I aspire to build a stronger community by encouraging local events and pride in all our area has to offer. I want to better represent the people and businesses who don't always have a voice or feel they are not being listened to.”
“I’m also keen to introduce and strengthen green initiatives, including better recycling services, supporting energy-efficient housing and businesses and protecting our valuable green spaces that enhance our wellbeing.”
IfN is providing a safe and supportive platform for potential independent candidates, assisting them to navigate the world of local political campaigning, raising their profile and helping build their connections.
Each week over the next two months, IfN will be announcing new candidates on a weekly basis.
