PRESS RELEASE: INDEPENDENTS FOR NEWARK AND DISTRICT ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE AND LOGO TO REFLECT GROWING SUPPORT
Independents for Newark, a thriving community-based movement, is pleased to announce its official name change and new logo, now proudly represented as "Independents for Newark and District" (IfND). This exciting transformation is a direct response to the rapidly growing support from both voters and prospective candidates throughout the region.
Originally set up with a focus on Newark, the movement quickly garnered attention and support from residents in various villages/parishes, including Wellow, Maplebeck and Balderton. As its influence extended further afield, it became evident that the time had come for a name change that accurately embodied the movement's broader vision and appeal.
The rebrand arrives at an opportune moment as the group warmly welcomes individuals keen to stand as independent candidates for the currently available Parish Council positions at Balderton Parish Council, reinforcing the group’s commitment to empowering local communities and fostering inclusivity.
Rowan Cozens, Chairperson of IfND, expressed her enthusiasm for this pivotal moment, stating, "We are thrilled to announce our name change to Independents for Newark and District. In less than one year, our movement has experienced rapid growth. This rebranding reflects our unwavering commitment to representing the wider district and the increasing number of residents and candidates who wholeheartedly share our vision for positive change."
Balderton District and Parish Councillor Jean Hall shared her support for the name change, remarking, "As someone who is passionate about making a difference in my community, I wholeheartedly support the shift to Independents for Newark and District. It's time we unite our neighbourhoods under one common purpose."
District Councillor Emma Oldham, one of the movement's founders, echoed the sentiments of progress, saying, "This change is a significant step toward broader representation and a stronger voice for our region.”
With the adoption of the new name Independents for Newark and District (IfND) and its ongoing expansion, this community-based movement is poised to further empower local communities and inspire positive change across the entire district.
Already, IfND has been vocal on local key issues including petitioning to reinstate 24/7 urgent care at Newark Hospital, speaking out against the closure of staffed ticket offices at Newark Castle and Newark North Gate Stations and introducing new policies to protect and recover the district’s waterways and give children first-hand experiences of the sea.
