INDEPENDENTS FOR NEWARK (IFN) GROW AS MORE CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED
Two more candidates have announced their intention to stand in the May 2023 Town and District council elections under the Independents for Newark (IfN) banner.
Adrian Amer, a practising Barrister, is standing for Newark and Sherwood District Council (Castle). Adrian feels strongly about protecting our hard-won rights and believes that taking care of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged is fundamental to a civilised society.
Adrian is also hugely concerned about the crime and anti-social behaviour being reported daily in Newark. A recent survey by Newark Advertiser reported that 84% of Newark residents fear going out at night. Adrian is also focused on wanting to support Newark's local businesses, which he calls the ‘lifeblood of the community’ who are facing the risk of closure due to huge increases in energy costs.
“I am excited to run as an Independent candidate and hope to join a fresh, rejuvenated Council that can serve the interests of the local community. I’m determined to win to help Newark promote its Market Place - our local beating heart - and support existing and new businesses in this very difficult economic period,” says Adrian.
“I will also work hard to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour to enable all people to feel safe walking the streets of Newark, whilst doing my utmost to protect Newark’s green spaces to enhance the physical and mental well-being of our residents and visitors.”
IfN’s sixth candidate to be announced is Susan Crosby, standing for Newark and Sherwood District Council (Bridge) and Newark Town Council (Bridge).
Susan has played a very active role in Newark’s community, dedicating many hours volunteering at Beaumond House Hospice, and Lombard Medical Centre and is currently Chair of the Friends of Newark Cemetery. One of Susan’s key aims is to advocate for constituents who need care, have caring responsibilities or have difficulties accessing medical services.
“I am standing as an Independent candidate because I’m passionate about and deeply rooted in our lovely market town. Our communities deserve a thriving town centre and a working A&E department in our hospital, alongside much better access to mental health services,” says Susan.
“I’d love to use my skills and experience to help support Newark’s most vulnerable residents and help drive down the cost of council tax, ensuring all residents get good value for their money.”
Independents for Newark hold no specific party-political affiliation and believe that adversarial party politics do not solve local issues. They have warmly welcomed and provided support to their latest two candidates.
“IfN continues to evolve. We’re regularly getting new people reaching out to us with an interest in standing in the May elections,” says Jenni Harding, a spokesperson for IfN. “We feel honoured to help support so many people and are impressed by the diversity of skills, experience and passion they all bring to the table.”
IfN will continue announcing new candidates up to the election on 4 May.
