Cllr Sophie Dickinson - Newark Town Council (Devon Ward)

“ It is a remarkable honour to have been entrusted with the support and votes of the wonderful people of this community. Although I joined the campaign relatively late, I am humbled by the overwhelming success we achieved, and I believe credit is due to our remarkable group of independent individuals who worked tirelessly.

The privilege I have been granted to serve as a voice for my community fills my heart with joy. My utmost commitment is to ensure that the needs and aspirations of the people of Newark are not only heard but also translated into action. Together, we will overcome challenges, celebrate accomplishments, and build a brighter future for generations to come.”

I'm a born-and-raised local, and I know firsthand the challenges and opportunities that our community faces. As a full-time carer for my mom, I've learned the importance of compassion, empathy, and hard work. And as a musician and creative spirit, I've always been passionate about expressing myself and connecting with others.

Now, I'm ready to take on a new challenge and fight for positive change in our community. I want to be a voice for the people around me who feel ignored and unheard. I want to make sure that everyone in Newark feels safe, supported, and valued.

One of my top priorities is investing in our young people. They are the future of our community, and we need to give them the tools and opportunities to thrive. That's why I'm passionate about creating accessible green spaces, youth clubs, sports opportunities, events and safe spaces for recreation and socializing.

We need to keep our children and teenagers engaged and excited about their future prospects and prevent them from resorting to negative behaviours like vandalism and trespassing.

I'm excited to learn from others and listen to your ideas and concerns. Together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant Newark that works for everyone.

ONE YEAR ON …

Being elected to Newark Town Council has been an incredibly educational experience for me. I I have had many opportunities to hear from people from different walks of life that have given me new perspectives and insights. I've used these in making decisions in the Town Council to contribute more to the life of the Town and surrounding areas.

Despite the many challenges we faced this year, the Town Council is working hard to put on various events that will enrich our whole community. Being part of the Council's Events, Arts, Culture and Twinning Group has been an education in itself. I now understand all the effort that goes into creating events around Newark and just how important these are to residents. I'm meeting and listening to constituents on my walks around Devon Ward and other areas of Newark. I'm happy to help any resident if I can.

Sophie Dickinson, working for a stronger, safer, and more vibrant Newark for everyone.
