TWO FEMALE CANDIDATES NOW ADDED TO THE INDEPENDENT FOR NEWARK LIST FOR NEWARK TOWN COUNCIL

Independents for Newark (IfN) is pleased to announce the addition of two more female candidates to their list for Newark Town Council.

IfN is dedicated to bringing positive change to the Newark community, and these two candidates are a testament to their commitment to promoting gender equality in politics.

Pamela Ball is one of the newly announced candidates for the Newark Town Council from Magnus Ward.

Pamela is a well-known advocate for creating a vibrant and healthy community in Newark. She has been actively involved in various community groups, including her role in sleeping under the library garden trees, as part of the Stop the Chop campaign to save them from being chopped down.

Pamela believes in the importance of accessible green spaces, reducing traffic and pollution and prioritising happiness and health for all.

"I am honoured to run as a candidate under IfN and to work alongside a team of dedicated individuals who share my passion for creating a happy, healthy community," says Pamela. "Together, we can bring about the much-needed change that will make Newark a better place to live, work and visit."

“I’m fortunate to be a part of a growing group of committed individuals (IfN), who are forward-thinking, aware and determined to do the right thing to bring about much-needed change. We are all listening!”

Glenis Rix, a lifelong resident of Newark and Sherwood, has announced her candidacy for Devon Ward in the Town Council elections, to be held on 04 May.

As a grandmother of young children, her overriding concern is how land, water, and air pollution associated with inappropriate development may contribute to climate change. She believes that the extensive housing development in the town has created problems for local infrastructure and services, which must be solved.

Glenis has a long history of community involvement in Newark, including helping to establish a charity which ran events that raised funds for Beaumont House Hospice and the Air Ambulance. She currently is a volunteer host at the Places of Welcome coffee mornings run by Newark Library.

Glenis has twelve years of experience in local government regeneration programmes, most recently, as the Strategic Development Director of an economic and social regeneration partnership programme for a deprived area of Leicester.

"I live in Devon Ward and am aware of the issues that stem from the economic and social exclusion of some of the people. These issues sometimes impact the wider community. I am committed to bringing the question of solving them to the forefront of the thinking of both the Town and District Council," Glenis said.

"I believe that my experience in local government and my qualifications in business and finance make me a suitable candidate to ensure that Town Council funds are allocated and spent wisely for the benefit of all townspeople.”

Both candidates hope to be a voice for those who have been ignored. They will bring fresh ideas and energy to the table.
