TWO MORE NEWARK LOCALS JOIN THE INDEPENDENTS FOR NEWARK (IFN) MOVEMENT

Independents for Newark (IfN) proudly announces two more candidates for the upcoming local elections

Emma Oldham is standing for Newark and Sherwood District Council (Balderton North and Coddington). She is committed to creating a more connected, cleaner, wilder and community-centred Balderton, Coddington, and Barnby in the Willows.

Emma has been an unwavering voice across the district, advocating for the preservation of our beloved greenspaces and working tirelessly to keep them free from development. Her volunteer work and fundraising efforts for various good causes have earned her a reputation as a true champion of the community. She understands the importance of preserving the things we love about where we live and helping to prevent their loss.

She says, "So many of our community's treasures- ranging from beloved greenspaces, to favourite child-care facilities and local businesses have been lost over the last decade. And there is no sign of it slowing down. Many of the things we love about where we live are at threat.”

As a mother of a young family, Emma knows firsthand the importance of having a thriving and inclusive community. She is passionate about improving local healthcare services, public transport investment, tackling anti-social behaviour and applying pressure to improve footpaths, potholes, and the litter that fills our streets and roads.

“I want to work with residents who know the local issues inside out to improve services, champion community groups, and play my part in a Council that better represents a broader range of ages and walks of life in Newark.”

"We are thrilled to have Emma Oldham as a candidate for IfN. Emma's passion for her community and her track record of volunteering and fundraising make her the perfect candidate to bring about positive change in Balderton, Coddington, and Barnby in the Willows," said IfN spokesperson, Jenni Harding.

Thomas Collier, standing for Town Council (Castle Ward)

With a background in law, education, social care, and the third sector, Thomas Collier is a well-equipped candidate with a unique perspective on the issues affecting Newark residents. As someone who works in the charity sector, specialising in advice and cost of living, Tom has seen the struggles that many people face in their daily lives.

Tom's top priority is to ensure that public services in Newark are secure and sustainable, particularly when it comes to public transport. He believes that providing better public transport options will not only help the environment but also make it easier for people to access healthcare, education, and job opportunities.

He says, “I am pleased to offer another choice to the local electorate. There is a national swing towards independent councillors, and I hope it continues in Newark.”

“We’re delighted to have Tom running under the IfN banner. He understands that the issues facing Newark residents are complex and multifaceted, and he is dedicated to finding real, practical solutions that work for everyone” says his agent Jenni Harding.

IfN is proud to have twelve exceptional candidates running for office, with more announcements to come leading up to the local elections. Newark residents have more choices than ever before, and IfN encourages everyone to get out and vote for the candidates that best represent their interests and values.
