TWO MORE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES WILL BE FACING THE BALLOT BOX ON 4 MAY

Independents for Newark (IfN) proudly announces two more candidates facing the ballot box on 4 May.

Carrie Young, Candidate for Newark and Sherwood District Council, Rainworth North and Rufford Ward.

Carrie has been a resident of the ward for over twenty years and has strong local connections to the mining industry in the Mansfield area. She has served as a parish councillor twice and has worked with main political parties, including the present MP, Robert Jenrick, to address various local issues such as planning, roads, and common lands.

Carrie is dedicated to fundraising for various community groups throughout the county and is proud to be standing. She says, "I am delighted to be standing as an Independent District Councillor, and I am funding my campaign myself. If elected, I would love to see more transparency in local politics and quicker response times to concerns. I have joined the growing number of independent candidates standing in Newark and Sherwood to see more powerful representation for local people.”

Neil Ross, Candidate for Newark and Sherwood District Council and Town Council, Beacon Ward.

Neil Ross, who has worked as a doctor for the Royal Air Force and British Army for 37 years, has also joined the Independents for Newark team to help bring positive change to the town. After three years of military recruitment work in Newark, Neil has decided to devote his time to improving the quality of life in the community.

Neil first became involved in local issues during the “Stop the Chop” campaign in 2021. He recalls, “I must confess, I had never even noticed those trees, but when I learned they were being felled to create parking spaces, I became involved. Nobody could justify the decision, and it made no sense. Thousands of people signed that petition, and it made me realise that ordinary people can have a voice, and we should use it. We all share responsibility for what this town will become.”

Neil is now volunteering at a charity book and record shop in Newark and joined Independents for Newark to help improve the quality of life for everyone in the community.

He states, “In Independents for Newark I have found people from different walks of life who want the best for Newark. They are not tied to a political party. They want to listen to ordinary people, and give them that voice, to make this town a safer, fairer, better place. A town that we can all be proud to call home.”

Neil's main concerns are around health, well-being, and quality of life, for everyone. He believes, “A town like Newark is a partnership based on trust and respect. We should be proud of this town. Too proud to see any part of our community is left behind. We will succeed together, or not at all. We all must work as a team to make that success a reality. “

Ten candidates are now standing under the IfN banner, with more lined up for announcements leading up to the local elections on 4 May.
