Cllr Esther Cropper - Newark Town Council (Beacon)

I am delighted to be re-elected to the Newark Town Council with a passion and drive that comes from my deep love for this town and its people.

As a qualified teacher and Forest Schools leader, I have always been passionate about the well-being of our children and young people and ensuring they have local and accessible opportunities to thrive, learn and develop.

I sing in two local groups and am an avid supporter of our green spaces, working tirelessly to preserve them for future generations.

I believe that party politics has no place in Parish or Town Councils. What matters is working together as a team to address the concerns and issues of our town. With cooperative teamwork, we can make the best decisions that will benefit our community.

During my first term as a councillor, I have learned so much about what this town needs to thrive. And I am eager to see the projects we have been working on come to fruition. But I know that I cannot do this alone. With a team of forward-thinking, positive and enthusiastic councillors, we can make Newark on Trent the thriving town it deserves to be.

I am here to serve the people of Newark and to work with them to make our town a better place for everyone. I am committed to bringing about the big changes that will benefit our community, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue to do so as a re-elected councillor.

ONE YEAR ON …

Since being re-elected in May 2023, it is clear to me that the current Town Council is a very different entity from that between 2019 and 2023. The new council is determined to make changes for the better and do the best for Newark in the long and short term. IfND councillors are working hard to create a cooperative council in which all councillors can share their ideas and be listened to.

Party politics is still present, but the 'us-and-them' competitive attitudes which help nobody are now thankfully in the minority. This means that we can work together to resolve some difficult inherited issues and move forward with enthusiasm and confidence. Listening to and learning from residents remains my priority and forms the basis of my work across Newark, especially in the Beacon ward.
